Whitchurch Poetry Slam Rules 2025
The slam will commence at 7.15pm on Monday 21st July at Percy’s Wine Bar SY13 1DW.Doors
open at 6.45pm .
Poets wishing to participate should contact hekay1958@gmail.com
They should send their name and a short bio which will be read when the poet is introduced.
The first prize is £50.

 

They should send their name and a short bio which will be read when the poet is introduced.Rules Slam1.The contestants will be judged by 3 judges: 1 poet, 1 community member and a third judge who will assess the level of audience applause for each poet. Each judge will give a score out of ten. The rules will be explained at the onset of the contest by the compere.2. Poems can be on any subject in any style. Poems which racist, sexist, trans/homophobic or disablist should not be used. Poetry Whitchurch is not responsible for the content of individual poems.3.Each poet must perform his/her/their own work.4.No musical instruments or pre-recorded music.5.A poem may only be used once during the slam6.Entrants should be 18 years old.7.No poem should last more than three minutes beginning with the first word being uttered. A bell will be sounded at the end of the three minutes. Although the poet will be allowed to carry on performing 0.5 of a mark will be deducted for every ten seconds.8.There will be two main rounds. The poets will compete in sets of three. The winner from each set of three poets will compete in the second round. In the event of a tie, poets will perform a third poem. For each round the names will be picked out of a hat. The poets will be introduced. The scores for each poet will be collected by a score person and announced at the end of each round of three people.Poets under 25 will be grouped together.

We are delighted to announce that Helen Ivory and Martin Figura will be our guests at an Open Mic evening on Monday 20th October, and they will be running a workshop on Sunday 19th October 1-3pm. 

The cost of the workshop is £12 and the venue of the workshop is to be confirmed.
