Poetry Open Mic Live @ Percys
Open mic nights are held on the third Monday every other month from 7.30-9:30 pm in Whitchurch town centre. We hold online open mics on the interim months.
Kate Innes is a poet and writer whose work is driven by her many passions, including (but not limited to...) art, nature mythology and history.
Her collection "Flocks of Words" was shortlisted for the Rubery Book Award in 2018. "The Matter", Kate's second poetry collection, has just been published and features works written during a collaboration with artist, Helen Garrett, inspired by the living elemental mater all around us.
Exploration, in every sense of the word, has been a feature of Kate's life. Born in London, she was then raised in America. However, Britain clearly had a positive impact on her in that short amount of time, as she returned as soon as she possibly could. A degree in Archaeology led to her working on various digs around Europe, before a PGCE in Religious Education and English took her to a rural secondary school in Zimbabwe.
As an experienced and entertaining educator (apologies for the unconscious, but now conscious alliteration) Kate delivers lectures, workshops and talks around the UK. And of course, wonderful poetry. So we're really excited to see her on December 15th.
Please be seated and no talking on the back..

Q&A
Can I just come and watch?
Yes! There is no pressure to read - you can come along and enjoy the poems.
What happens on the night?
Our open mic nights are usually held in two halves.
We open with a guest poet (an experienced published poet) reading from their work. After this the MC will invite other poets to read a number of their poems. There is an interval after about an hour then the cycle repeats.
Can I read my poems?
Yes! The MC or another member of the open mic team will take names at the start of the night to ensure everyone that wants to read can do so. Please ensure content is suitable. We encourage new work to ensure a fresh atmosphere.
Do I need to book?
Not at present but we will keep this under review.
