Poetry Open Mic Live @ Percys
Open mic nights are held on the third Monday every other month from 7.30-9:30 pm in Whitchurch town centre. We hold online open mics on the interim months.
Steven Langstaff is a spoken word artist from Hull, and now resides in Nantwich. His work swings from poems about time, life, death, football and Superman, with a healthy dose of awful train journeys, disengaged English students and a man having a metaphorical fight with the sun.
There’ll be poems that make you laugh, poems that make you think, and poems that make you go to the bar.
One reviewer described him as “a little niche in places” which is the greatest acclaim he’s had since winning Cub Scout of the Year in 1994.
Supported Lemn Sissay and Elvis McGonagall and tour support for Thea Gilmore, as well as opening for GANS.
‘Warm, funny, hard-hitting and endlessly lyrical. Langstaff does more than just write poetry… he changes minds.’ (Thea Gilmore)

Q&A
Can I just come and watch?
Yes! There is no pressure to read - you can come along and enjoy the poems.
What happens on the night?
Our open mic nights are usually held in two halves.
We open with a guest poet (an experienced published poet) reading from their work. After this the MC will invite other poets to read a number of their poems. There is an interval after about an hour then the cycle repeats.
Can I read my poems?
Yes! The MC or another member of the open mic team will take names at the start of the night to ensure everyone that wants to read can do so. Please ensure content is suitable. We encourage new work to ensure a fresh atmosphere.
Do I need to book?
Not at present but we will keep this under review.
