Poetry discussion groups

About once a month, we host a friendly discussion group to look at the work of a particular published poet.  If you like close reading you'll love this.

The dates for 2026:

January 20th (Gillian Clarke)

March 17th (Michael Donaghy)

May 19th (Michael Symmons Roberts)

July 21st (Poet tbc)

September 22nd (Poet tbc)

November 17th (Poet tbc)

How does it work on the day?

One of the groups, by arrangement at the previous meeting, will lead the discussion on a set poet.

The group's leader, Deb, works with whoever is leading the session and sends round a series of chosen poems to the group.  Then on the night the poems are discussed.  Its very cosy and friendly.

How do I get to attend?

You can just come along if its your first time.  If you'd prefer though please do get in touch with us at poetrywhitchurch@hotmail.com  and we can send you the selected poems to read in advance.Where is it? We meet at The Vinyl Countdown, 15 Green End, Whitchurch SY13 1AD.

Is there a charge?

We humbly suggest a donation of £3 to help with the charity's running costs.

How are the featured poets chosen?

The group decide democratically at the start of the year, suggestions always welcome. Just some of the poets previously discussed include:
