POETRY WHITCHURCH

We are working with a range of local partners to engage young people in our area in poetry.

We are partnered with our local comprehensive school, Sir John Talbot's School, to provide opportunities to deepen understanding of poetry and to enrich their lives through self expression, wellbeing and wider artistic development. ​ We have held a series of creative writing sessions and we are working to help develop skills to respond intuitively and precisely to poetry, which is now a key part of the GCSE English literature syllabus. 

 

We are also working with partners such as the Arvon Foundation to provide opportunities to work with professional poets outside the school environment, and we are delighted to have been able to facilitate days away to Arvon's fantastic writing retreats. ​ We are increasingly seeking to include young people in other activities so that poetry is deeply established in the area and a source of confidence and expression.
